Michelle Le Sage, Hotel Manager
It would be difficult to find a more passionate or committed hotel industry professional than Michelle Le Sage. For more than 24 years, she has pursued progressively more senior positions, always dedicated to exemplifying the very best in customer service. In her recent role as General Manager of the Westerly Hotel in Courtenay, Michelle led renovations and improvements over a 2 year period while quickly becoming a valued volunteer in the community. Prior to her move to Courtenay, Michelle held the position of Assistant General Manager at the esteemed Chateau Victoria where she led the food and beverage team as well as a very successful renovation and rebranding of the hotel dining establishments. Community organizations have also benefited from her creative, innovative and generous spirit in her many volunteer roles including Chair of the Victoria branch of the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCFRA), President of the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce, Board member on the Greater Victoria Eldercare Committee and a member of Rotary International. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management from Royal Roads University and is a proud resident of Oak Bay.
Rob Budlong, Executive Chef
Executive Chef Robert Budlong has more than 15 years of professional cooking experience with leading world-class hotels and resorts across Canada. Among the highlights of his successful career, Chef Budlong has held senior positions in the kitchens of the Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet, BC; The Westin Edmonton; The Westin Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria, BC; and The Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. Prior to his appointment as Executive Chef, Chef Budlong held the position of Executive Sous Chef at the Hotel. It was in this position that he was able to hone his skills and expertise in contemporary cuisine, as well as the management of multiple food and beverage outlets all under the one roof. As Executive Chef for the Oak Bay Beach Hotel, Chef Budlong successfully manages all six food and beverage outlets within the hotel. This includes the casual café and pub fare served in Kate’s and The Snug, as well as the gourmet fine dining and a la carte meals offered in the Dining Room and with our seaside spa service.
